The little boy that lit up our world. Seth James Maceyko left us entirely too soon at the young age of just 5 years old. This picture would prove to be one that we would cherish forever. Child loss is such a difficult path to walk.

Some people said that they saw the face of Jesus in this picture. If you look above the cardinal a few feet maybe you will see it too. As I mentioned in my book, the cardinal gave me hope when I needed it the most so whether or not you see a face I received great comfort from this picture. The fact that others so quickly claimed to see Jesus shocked me, but even now the truly shocking thing for me was how the picture even posted, to begin with. This pic was not meant to ever be seen!

Every Saturday during college football season it was “boys time, no girls allowed” as declared by Seth. It was a special chance for us to bond as father and son. It was also the reason that I wore the Ohio State jersey to Seth’s funeral. It meant more than any shirt and tie ever could.

After every Little League baseball game, Seth would beg me to pitch him a bucket of balls so that he could hit and run the bases. His over-sized helmet made him look small, but he lived larger than most of us ever will.

Our family dog, Princess, mothered all of our children and was there from the time of Seth’s birth. I often wonder how she felt when Seth was no longer with us. In 2017 Princess passed and it hurt all of us immensely once again. Hopefully, Seth has had the chance to reunite with his doggy.

The dolphin that came to play near the pier that we were on in Florida (and the view) reminded me that life could still be beautiful.

Here are a few pictures of the remodel that we came home to after the Florida trip. I am still amazed at the love that went into this.

Seth was always a part of the coaching staff for his sister’s team. From left to right: Sage Brannon, Allie Maceyko, Seth, and Kyndall Spires.

The cardinals still come to visit and we continue to enjoy hearing their songs.
