The Strongest People Ask for Help

🎙️ New Episode: The Strongest People Ask for Help

There are moments in life when determination can carry us a long way. And then there are moments when determination isn’t enough. After spending the past week in the hospital as my wife, Trish, recovered from cancer surgery, I couldn’t help but notice something. Doctors, nurses, therapists, food service workers, housekeeping staff, family, friends, and countless others all played a role in her recovery. Some were right in front of us. Others worked quietly behind the scenes.

It reminded me that none of us is meant to travel life’s toughest seasons alone. So, in this month’s episode of The Coach Maceyko Show, we’re talking about why asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s often one of the greatest acts of courage.

In this episode:

🏀 Bet You Didn’t Know… THIS Story
Discover the incredible true story behind a well-known movie star – and the unlikely events that inspired one of Hollywood’s greatest underdog films.

🎯 Game Plan
Why we’ve misunderstood what real strength looks like. And how asking for help can become one of the strongest decisions you’ll ever make.

đź’Ş Training Room
Three practical drills you can use this week to stop carrying life’s burdens alone.

🎤 Ask the Coach
Question: “Coach, how do I know when I need to ask for help instead of just pushing through?”

If you’ve ever felt like you had to carry everything by yourself, this episode is for you.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for, encouraged, and supported our family during Trish’s cancer journey. Your kindness has reminded us that we’re surrounded by people who truly care, and we’re incredibly grateful.

You’ve lost enough… Now it’s time to win.

The Graduation That Never Came

The Graduation That Never Came

As seniors across America celebrate graduation season, families gather to cheer, take pictures, and celebrate milestones years in the making. For me, this season brings a different emotion. This would have been my son Seth’s graduation year. Instead of preparing for graduation parties and senior pictures, I find myself reflecting on the reality that some milestones never arrive. And that’s one of the hardest truths about grief.

In this episode of The Coach Maceyko Show, I share a deeply personal message about loss, remembrance, and the moments that never come. I also discuss why our society struggles to talk about grief, how loss continues long after the funeral ends, and practical ways we can better support those who are grieving.

In This Episode:

🏀 Bet You Didn’t Know (BYDK)

  • The story behind an iconic song born out of pure pain
  • A surprising connection that hit close to home

🏀 The Game Plan

  • Why grief isn’t a single event
  • The hidden losses that come after loss
  • The graduation that never came

🏀 The Training Room

  • Five ways to support a grieving friend or family member
  • What grieving people really need
  • Why simply showing up matters

🏀 Ask Coach

  • Why does work only give us a few days when someone we love dies?
  • What our culture gets wrong about grief
  • Why healing doesn’t follow a calendar

Whether you’ve experienced loss yourself or want to better support someone who has, I hope this episode reminds you that grief is not a sign of weakness. It’s evidence that love existed first.

And remember…It’s Time to Win.

Win the Next Possession

Life has a way of pushing back sometimes.

Hard.

This episode of The Coach Maceyko Show features a powerful Bet You Didn’t Know story about a man who experienced years of failure, ridicule, and utter exhaustion, before he changed the world. From there, Coach dives into the Main Message featuring several truths about resilience, fear, emotional exhaustion, confidence, pressure, and what it really means to keep showing up when life gets heavy. And of course, a trip inside the Training Room for a few exercises to put this week’s discussion into action is included.

And a new featured segment, Ask, is introduced. This is where Coach Maceyko answers your questions using his more than three decades of coaching wisdom, combined with a lifetime of experience. This episode addresses the question:

“How do I do this?”

To answer that, Coach talks about one of his teams, and shares why sometimes the answer isn’t winning the whole game at once…it’s about simply winning the next possession.

If life has been pushing back against you lately, this episode is a reminder. Some people look the most like failures, right before the breakthrough finally comes. And sometimes the darkest moments happen right before the light.

The 6 Letter Word No One Wants to Hear

Episode Title: The 6 Letter Word No One Wants to Hear

Some words change everything.

This episode of The Coach Maceyko Show arrives later than planned – but for a reason that brings the message closer to home than ever before. What was supposed to be a routine week turned into a hospital stay, as my wife faced complications just before beginning her fight against cancer. That’s the six-letter word no one wants to hear.

In this deeply personal and powerful episode, we walk through what it means to face life when it suddenly shifts beneath your feet. In our signature “Bet You Didn’t Know…” segment, we revisit the unforgettable story of Jim Valvano—his improbable NCAA Championship run with NC State and the iconic ESPY speech he delivered while battling cancer. His words still echo today as a blueprint for how to live when time feels uncertain: don’t give up… don’t ever give up.

From there, we step into the heart of the episode.

The Main Message and Training Room focus on how to respond when the unexpected becomes reality, when you’re faced with something you didn’t choose and can’t control. This isn’t theory. This is lived experience. It’s the exhaustion of hospital chairs, the quiet moments of fear, and the search for strength when there’s nothing left to give.

You’ll also hear about my latest song release, “It Isn’t Fair” – written in the early hours of the morning after hearing words no family is ever prepared for. It’s raw, honest, and speaks directly to the question so many people carry but rarely say out loud.

This episode isn’t about easy answers. It’s about showing up anyway. It’s about standing when everything in you wants to fall. It’s about what Faith Beyond looks like in real time – when life delivers the six-letter word no one wants to hear.

If you’re walking through something heavy right now…you’re not alone.

Resilience

This coaching episode is centered on one word: resilience.

What does it really mean to rise when life knocks you down? Not in theory – but in real life, when things don’t go as planned and the weight feels heavy.

In this episode of The Coach Maceyko Show:

  • Bet You Didn’t Know (BYDK): A powerful story of the phoenix – symbolizing rebirth, renewal, and rising from the ashes.
  • Training Room: Practical ways to build resilience when life feels overwhelming.
  • Rise Up Champion: The story of David Goggins and what relentless mental toughness truly looks like.

We close with the Time to Win message and reminder, because sometimes resilience isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about taking the next step anyway. If you’re going through something right now, this episode is for you.

Just keep going.
