The Graduation That Never Came

As seniors across America celebrate graduation season, families gather to cheer, take pictures, and celebrate milestones years in the making. For me, this season brings a different emotion. This would have been my son Seth’s graduation year. Instead of preparing for graduation parties and senior pictures, I find myself reflecting on the reality that some milestones never arrive. And that’s one of the hardest truths about grief.

In this episode of The Coach Maceyko Show, I share a deeply personal message about loss, remembrance, and the moments that never come. I also discuss why our society struggles to talk about grief, how loss continues long after the funeral ends, and practical ways we can better support those who are grieving.

In This Episode:

🏀 Bet You Didn’t Know (BYDK)

  • The story behind an iconic song born out of pure pain
  • A surprising connection that hit close to home

🏀 The Game Plan

  • Why grief isn’t a single event
  • The hidden losses that come after loss
  • The graduation that never came

🏀 The Training Room

  • Five ways to support a grieving friend or family member
  • What grieving people really need
  • Why simply showing up matters

🏀 Ask Coach

  • Why does work only give us a few days when someone we love dies?
  • What our culture gets wrong about grief
  • Why healing doesn’t follow a calendar

Whether you’ve experienced loss yourself or want to better support someone who has, I hope this episode reminds you that grief is not a sign of weakness. It’s evidence that love existed first.

And remember…It’s Time to Win.
